Great presentation, good resource for print. I would have given it a 5 stars if it wasn't for the misleading RGB values. If you work with color online, or for video or film be aware that the RGB values for the base colors are dramatically off. Test the CMYK values in your favorite color picker/convertor and go from there for equivalent RGB or HEX values. Color profiles in your software or monitor setting can do some weird stuff but some of the numbers are too odd for settings to be the culprit.

I would be embarrassed to site this Dictionary in any academic work. This book is a joke mainly something pretty to put on your coffee table to make it look like your an intellectual. What is most frustrating the book doesn't have entries for tertiary colors as we know them - we have to read about peach, coral, and ocher. Moreover, the descriptions on colors do not go into any details on why the color it describes as such; I have to take their word for it. I would not say I like this book. SAVE YOUR MONEY

Very insightful! I wish the content about each colour was a bit expanded but I appreciate the colour palettes and ways to use the colour. I noticed a couple typos, one colour with wrong CMYK numbers, and then the same dots on the colour wheel for chartreuse and green (they copied and pasted bur forgot to update the positions of the dots). Surprised something like that was missed in editing.Other than that, it's a good book. Borders between coffeetable and practical.

I think it’s an interesting book and somewhat useful – with the illustrations forming the majority of what is interesting because they help seed one’s creativity and expands one’s vision of what can be done.I did not read other peoples’ reviews prior to buying the book because I believe I can learn something new even from a bad book. In conjunction with Josef Albers’ book, Interaction of Color, which I’m reading, this book is a useful adjunct as you can clearly see in the illustrations provided how color selection and placement can affect your perception of an image.For the above two reason, I gave the book 3 stars.What’s disappointing about the book is . . .1) The large thread of arrogance that runs through it is off-putting. The author expects you to know and understand what he knows so when he says a picture,“(… ) explores the relationship between Catholicism and Santeria.” you’re supposed to get what the picture is trying to tell you and how the color in question brings that out.2) The second thing that’s disappointing is the lack of care that was taken in the CMYK and RGB values. If you wish to create a specific color, you must use a color convertor to determine which codes are correct, RBG or CMYK, and which are not.For example, the first color, in the first section, a soft butter yellow, is correctly identified as CMYK 0,0,50,0, but the RGB values of 177,250,155 create a pale green. Using an internet color converter tool, the correct RGB numbers are 255,255,128.In another color, Fuchsia, the RGB colors are correct, while the CMYK value of 0,100,0,0 is wrong. The correct CMYK value based on the RBG colors is: 0,100,38,8.

This book perfectly describes everything I feel about colors and does a great job describing the cultural and historical associations we have with color. It also provides lots of great examples of how these colors have been used in Design history and it's fantastic. Definitely recommended to anyone curious about color, design, and its uses in history.
